Position Summary: 

The incumbent in this position is responsible for facilitating communication and collaboration between Pharmacy Operations, Education, Quality & Safety and Research. Also, will have oversight to ensure compliance with regulations, development and implementation of strategies to ensure patient medication safety and employee safety. Responsible for proactive review of pharmacy systems to ensure safe, efficient practices and development of strategies for expansion of pharmacy clinical services. The incumbent is responsible for the overall management and oversight of the Pharmacy Residency programs, student programming and Pharmacy Education programs to include supervision of the daily activities of the staff assigned. Responsible for the tactical and strategic planning for his/her section and areas of responsibility in coordination with the Chief Pharmacy Officer. Recruits, hires, supervises and evaluates pharmacy staff. Ensures compliance with all Federal and State regulations and departmental policies. Develops and implements sustainable policies and procedures, provides oversight of payroll and scheduling and provides staffing support as necessary. Provides leadership and oversight for medication safety officer, pharmacy education specialist, clinical coordinator, investigational drug manager and residency program managers. The incumbent will identify opportunities to improve services through the use of technology and equipment and is actively involved in departmental strategic planning, implementing cost savings strategies and enhancing revenue opportunities. Acts as the designated Pharmacist in Charge for the areas of oversight.


Required Qualifications:

Ability to apply sound judgment in ambiguous situations and effectively manage change

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System

Ability to read and correctly interpret complex regulations, contracts and policies

Ability to use computerized systems, applications, such as Microsoft Office, medication and safety technologies, and automated dispensing equipment

Demonstrated experience in project coordination and implementation of programs

Doctor of Pharmacy licensed in CA in good standing with the Board of Pharmacy

Financial management and analysis skills consistent with budgetary responsibilities

Knowledge of State and Federal laws, regulations and regulatory agency requirements for acute and ambulatory care Pharmacy

Minimum 5 years’ previous experience in a Pharmacy leadership role

Must possess State of California Pharmacist License in good standing within 12 months of hire

Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

Registered Pharmacist


Preferred Qualifications:

Completion of PGY1 pharmacy practice residency

Experience leading teams, working in collaborative groups, providing project management guidance

Experience working in a union environment

Knowledge and use of EPIC electronic health record

Master’s Degree in business, management or leadership field

Previous experience in Medication Safety, Clinical Pharmacy research

Prior successful management experience, preferably at a large, multi-hospital organization
